PostSubject: Max Holloway vs. Jeremy Stephens   Fri Sep 04, 2015 12:17 pm

Max Holloway wanted one more fight before the end of the year after after an opponent injury marred his latest victory. He got his wish in the form of a UFC 194 showdown with Jeremy Stephens.

UFC officials today announced the featherweight matchup between Holloway (14-3 MMA, 10-3 UFC) and Stephens (24-11 MMA, 11-10 UFC) for the Dec. 12 event.

UFC 194 takes place at Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena. The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1 and UFC Fight Pass.

Holloway, who’s ranked No. 7 in the NOS Energy Drink MMA featherweight rankings, is fresh off a victory over Charles Oliveira in his first UFC main event, which came at UFC Fight Night 74. “Blessed” was declared the winner by first-round TKO, However, the fight lasted just 96 seconds before Oliveira suffered an injury (esophagus tear) that caused a sudden halt to the contest.

Despite the disappointing nature of the bout, the 23-year-old earned his seventh consecutive victory and became the youngest fighter in UFC history to reach 10 octagon wins. He expressed interest in a fight with former UFC champ Frankie Edgar, but “The Answer” was booked against Chad Mendes at The Ultimate Fighter 22 Finale on Dec. 11.

Stephens, ranked No. 12, looks to halt the momentum of the young Hawaiian. In his latest bout, “Lil’ Heathen” produced one of the best victories of his long UFC career when he landed a flying-knee knockout against Dennis Bermudez at UFC 189 in July.

At just 29, Stephens has already made 21 appearances under the UFC banner since his promotional debut in May 2007. He started his career at lightweight but moved down to featherweight in May 2013 after three straight losses. The change in weight class has reinvigorated Stephens’ career, and he could enter the title discussion with a win over Holloway.
