PostSubject: Fedor vs. Anderson Silva In The Works?   Wed Sep 16, 2015 3:41 pm

Quote :
Chael Sonnen is known to pass along plenty of info, some of which he probably isn’t supposed to.

In the latest episode of Sonnen’s ‘You’re Welcome’ podcast, the former UFC fighter talked to Frank Mir. The topic of fighters returning after retiring came up and that’s when Sonnen dropped some pretty crazy news.

He told Mir that he knows that the UFC is currently working on putting together a fight with Anderson Silva and Fedor Emelianenko.

Here’s what he said:

“Speaking of guys trying to stretch out their career, Fedor man. UFC’s signing him right?”

“So, you might have heard this rumor, but if you haven’t then I’ll start if for you. I can confirm that this is being tried to put together. This is happening at the UFC, but they’re trying to put a fight together Frank, 205 pounds, Fedor Emelianenko –you ready for this?- vs. Anderson Silva.”

Would that be the biggest fight in MMA history? Or is it too far past their primes now?

Suspect

So... busted for PEDs but lining up a big HUGE money fight for him...

Nope, he signed with Bellator.
I think his first fight is probably gonna be against, uh........

Hmm.........

Help me out here; are there any actual HWs on Bellator's roster other than UFC flunkies? Fedor vs Lavar Johnson or Cheick Kongo isnt exactly dripping with awesome sauce. Lol

fedor solidifying his fake paper legacy.....although I do understand that the big money is no longer with the ufc so im really not that surprised......but if he wanted to make any kind of statement he would have tested himself in the ufc.....so in my eyes he was never the best or deserving of any p4p talk

hes not signed with bellator. he is signed with the former pride president Nobuyuki Sakakibara promotion who will do a cross fight on nye using some of bellators fighters. its the smartest business move for fedor imo. spike tv nye return of pride president and fedor the numbers will be huge and the opportunity to have a explosive win to get people talking even more.
the real question is - is there a contract for several fights or is this a one shot deal?

this fight will be in japan and they love freak shows so there are fights such as-
randy
ricardo arona
sakaraba
kimbo slice
Sergei Kharitonov
tito ortiz
king moe

let him test the waters and see where he is at then make the move to UFC

They'll do what they have always done in Japan (with a few exceptions) and give him a high-profile, yet extremely winnable fight.

He's not going to the UFC. He's gonna spend the next couple of years doing the freak show thing and "cementing his legacy" by beating up on the Kimbos and Sapps and Butterbeans of the world before finally retiring......again.

Or,
it is because it's the founder of pride, the most beloved fighting promotion ever, and it is Fedor, maybe the most beloved fighter ever, and they are banking on that people will flock to their card and soon so will the fighters. Especially with the help of bellator and the reebok deal. Fighters very well might start leaving ufc to fight in a promotion where they can become their own brand, just as, Im sure, was fedor's thinking when he didnt sign with ufc.
The fans that want to see him fight the two or three fighters that are really dangerous for him, right now, have only that agenda, while he has other. He is thinking about the binding contract that he has to sign with ufc, be their work horse for years and come out of it with nothing compared to what he can do outside ufc. He can be his own brand, earn a lot more money, and I am absolutely sure, is thinking about the future after retirement - possibly to be involved in the front office of the promotion with that Pride guy.
But, of course, the easy solution is that he is avoiding competition. Right.

PostSubject: Re: Fedor vs. Anderson Silva In The Works?   Wed Sep 23, 2015 12:16 pm

Well personally speaking, I never once said Fedor himself was ducking anybody. I actually am of the belief that his management is and always was doing his ducking for him, and Fedor just more or less goes along with it, being the easy going fellow that he is.
With that said, if he himself is only interested in money (which everybody; for or against this signing seems to agree on), then all of his words about the competitive fire burning inside him and yearning to challenge himself as a fighter are utter horseshit.

On another note, where are you getting this idea that the UFC was even making a go at signing him in the first place? All I've seen is Fedor mentioning wanting to "negotiate with the UFC as well as other organizations", but Dana never made a peep about any negotiations whatsoever, other than a winky face on a photo shopped picture on Instagram.
I think we're jumping to conclusions in assuming there was another big bidding war for Fedor like the last time he was a free agent.
Afterall, this is not even close to the same Fedor as the last time he was a free agent, in talent or drawing power. I'm betting there were very preliminary talks with the UFC that ended with his management once again making ludicrous demands, and the UFC saying thanks for coming, there's the door.
I think you're really over valuing just how greatly he was sought after this time around. He'll make some money for Bellator or whoever this contract is with, but I honestly don't think he brings much to the table as a UFC fighter at this point.

2.5 millions will buy a lot of cans.
not having to answer to dana and be his bitch will make the can crushing even more enjoyable.
when a lot of fighters leave ufc and join him, together they can crush a lot more cans

Paper Emperor vs Tito.  Paper Emperor wins by decision, Tito cries again...

But didn't the chemical enhanced Paper Emperor just sign with some unnamed Japanese MMA org?

He's gonna have to change his name from the Paper Emperor to the Steroid Duck.

I mean... yeah I get it... CREAM... but fuckin aye! A yet to be named or even created MMA Japanese organization is who you choose to "sign" with? And the fuckin date of your fight is a fuckin Thursday on a holiday when people all over the world are known to NOT be at home watching TV... I don't know...
Also why the hell is Bellator celebrating as if it were a win for them and allowing another essential competitor to advertise on their platform? If I were Coker I might not be so happy with Viacom right now...

Thos was kinda baffling to me too.

They were trying to sell it to the audience like this was gonna be some kind of power-couple partnership between Bellator and whatever the hell this other "org" is gonna be (for the record, my guess is "Fedor 1", "Fedor 2", and the end), but it's beginning to look a lot more like Bellator's only purpose was to donate 15 minutes of air time to Fedor and Pride-Guy.

ugh cant argue with this sentiment. it is not even one of those strong cans, like a soup or pasta sauce, it is a soda can made by starving children in the third world country.
This hurts Fedor's legacy more that his losses.
I still hope that the business decision he made will pay off, not much hope though. Even if he is calculating to attract fighters for the future and be in the front office of the org, if he fights these kind of cans he wont attract anyone.
