Well based on commie's post I gotta ask, just to be clear, we havent collectively as a group here anointed him as the best fighter in the UFC, have we?

I mean yes, we are all pretty much in agreement that his ascension is unprecedented and he's an absolute star due to his swagger and unmatched mic skills. But I assumed everyone else felt the same as I did about Conor McGregor the fighter;

He's really good, but not great.

I'm a big fan, and he's been able to up until this point back up all his talk and then some. But I'd put his meteoric rise at about 65% charisma and marketability and 35% fighting skills.
He's without a doubt a fantastic fighter, but he's not the best, and nowhere near all time great. I look at it like he's just caught lightning in a bottle and got on a hot streak for the ages that is compounded by how well he sells a fight.

I assumed we were all in agreement on that, but do the rest of you guys think he's the best fighter in the game?

Lightning in a bottle for sure. It also does not hurt that there is not one other champ in the UFC with any charisma or real likeability.

Rousey getting KO'd was probably the best thing for Conor's carreer as the UFC simply shifted all those marketing dollars to Conor.

conor is striking while the iron is hot. I think the ufc gives him favorable match ups too.
( khabib, alvarez, and faber all campaigned for the fight against conor. Faber even said he would fight him at 170 lol. But the ufc shot that down because what I believe is they cant have the flame smotheredby a top heavy wrestler )

conor is the concept car at the car show. he looks great and there are a lot of people standing around watching him but we only heard him get started and he hasn't really been driven.

conor on the other hand doesn't even credit his success to his striking he credits it to his hard work and his movement coach. precision and timing is key!

I pretty much agree with this. I can't be convinced of "GOATness" til I see him defeat a solid wrestler with a full camp.

Hard to believe that given the sheer amount of thunderous hype there is about the guy, at the end of the day he currently has exactly zero title defenses of his one belt.
