PostSubject: Dana to discuss GSP's injury at press conference- 2pm Wednesday   Wed Oct 19, 2011 2:38 am

    http://mmaweekly.com/ufc-president-dana-white-to-update-st-pierres-injury-and-recovery-status-on-wednesday

    Quote:
Georges St-Pierre is injured and out of UFC 137, but on Wednesday UFC President Dana White will let everyone know exactly what happened.

That’s according to St-Pierre’s lead trainer Firas Zahabi who spoke to MMAWeekly.com on Tuesday night.

While several reports have been made about St-Pierre’s injury revolving around an injured knee, Zahabi could only give a few details and stated that the incident occurred today.

“All I can say is he was at Tristar gym working out and he hurt himself. Tomorrow I believe Dana White is going to tell the press,” Zahabi stated.

“He was sparring today at Tristar and he got hurt at the gym.”

Current rumors have stated that St-Pierre will be on the sidelines for a few weeks, but the only thing for sure is it’s not something that’s going to hamper the champion for any extended period of time.

“One thing that’s definite, he won’t be fighting next week unfortunately. It’s not a career ending injury by any means, but Dana White’s going to tell everybody the details tomorrow,” Zahabi commented.

This seems weird. A lot of hush-hush regarding the details on the injury. It's probably nothing out of the ordinary, but something just doesn't feel very routine about the process to me.

Yeah seems strange they would hold a press conference about this. He's injuried, we know this so why have a media press conference to discuss it? Unless it was a way to announce a replacement fight of some sort, but as far I as I understand Condit is going to wait for GSP to heal up.

Odd that they would send out a presser about it. He hurt his knee training and is out for a few weeks. What else is there to say? This must have recently happened - just a few hours before the injury GSP posted on his Facebook how well training was going.

Heh ... I can hardly wait for the first hater to say "GSP IS DUCKING CONDIT".

4 to 6 weeks means its not a tear or rip probably a bad sprain... maybe some cartilidge damage... but that usually requires arthoscopic look-see and that could mean 4 to 6 months.

Quit doing that freaking back flip....

So anybody hear anything about this? It sounds like there was indeed a press conference, but I haven't heard any news on this specifically.

    From Sherdog Sept 18

UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre suffered a setback on Tuesday, spraining his knee during a sparring session at Tristar Gym in Montreal and subsequently bowing out of his title defense against Carlos Condit at UFC 137.

Speaking exclusively with Sherdog.com, St. Pierre’s trainer, Firas Zahabi (Pictured), provided details on the welterweight king’s injury.

“He was sparring today and he hurt his knee,” Zahabi confirmed to Sherdog.com. “I had a feeling it was bad, but then, once he cooled down, he started limping. There’s no way he would be able to fight.”

    Sept 18?!?!

I'm assuming you meant Oct 18. Regardless, I meant did anybody hear anything from today's press conference regarding the "official" announcement of the injury, as the secret nature of the details is odd to me.

    Oct 19 Connected interview:

GSP says diagnosed Moderate Ligament strain from training on the 15th... MRI Monday indicated no tearing of the ligiment... went back to training on the 18th and got a "compensation injury" on his opposing leg hamstring. Made the decision to pull out.

Nothing really said at the press conference because it was still in question at the time.
